ROBERTO GHEZZI INSTALLATION | NATUROGRAFIA
Roberto Ghezzi was born in 1978 in Cortona, where he currently lives and works. Grandson of the famous artist from Cortona Gino Ghezzi, he began painting very early, attending the study of sculpture and family painting. Over the years he deepens the technique of his artistic language at the “Perceptive Processes” School at the Piero della Francesca Art Institute in Arezzo and subsequently attending the Florence Academy of Fine Arts. Since the 1990s he has held solo shows in some of the most prestigious Italian and foreign exhibition venues, creating works, research and artistic residences in wild places in Alaska, Iceland, South Africa, Tunisia and Norway.
If Ghezzi’s early artworks restored the natural landscape through his gaze, with a mimesis of the phenomenal datum, the current research, reshaping the relationship between representation and reality and between artist and work, led to the total abandonment of the usual pictorial tools in favor of a new way of conceiving artistic expression itself.
In the early 2000s Ghezzi has devised a new technique, which he has called ‘Naturografia’, (namely written by the nature), which involves an active collaboration between the artist and the natural environment itself, and which consists in leaving various types of canvases (linen, cotton, organza) treated with photosensitive organic reagents, directly in contact with the natural elements for many days, often months and sometimes years. In this way the water, mud, dust, flora and fauna of these particular environments begin to grow in the artworks themself. Thus the contribution that the artist gives to the artwork is conceptual and preparatory: he chooses the place, the time, and the duration of the exhibition, while the environment, in all its forms, during the seasons, creates the rest
Roberto Ghezzi è nato a Cortona nel 1978, dove attualmente vive e lavora. Nipote del noto artista cortonese Gino Ghezzi, inizia a dipingere molto precocemente, frequentando lo studio di scultura e pittura di famiglia. Negli anni approfondisce la tecnica del suo linguaggio artistico presso la Scuola “Processi Percettivi” all’Istituto d’Arte Piero della Francesca di Arezzo e successivamente frequentando l’Accademia delle Belle Arti Di Firenze. A partire dagli anni Novanta tiene personali in alcune tra le più prestigiose sedi espositive italiane e all’estero, realizzando opere, ricerche e residenze artistiche in luoghi selvaggi di Alaska, Islanda, Sudafrica, Tunisia e Norvegia.
Se le prime opere di Ghezzi hanno restituito il paesaggio naturale attraverso il suo sguardo, con una mimesi del dato fenomenico, l’attuale ricerca, rimodulando il rapporto tra rappresentazione e realtà e tra artista ed opera, ha portato al totale abbandono dei consueti strumenti pittorici in favore di un nuovo modo di concepire l’espressione artistica stessa.
Nei primi anni del Duemila, Ghezzi ha ideato una nuova tecnica, da lui chiamata ‘Naturografia’, che prevede una collaborazione attiva tra l’artista e l’ambiente naturale stesso, e che consiste nel lasciare all’interno di ambienti naturali tele di vario tipo (lino, cotone, organze) trattate con reagenti fotosensibili di natura organica, direttamente a contatto con gli elementi naturali per molti giorni, spesso mesi e talvolta anni. In questo modo l’acqua, il fango, la polvere, la flora e la fauna di quei particolare ambiente iniziano a crescere nelle opere stesse. Così l’apporto che l’artista dà all’opera è concettuale e preparatorio: egli sceglie il luogo, il tempo, e la durata dell’esposizione, mentre l’ambiente, in tutte le sue forme, durante le stagioni, crea il resto.
