KACPER KOWALSKI PHOTOGRAPHY
Kacper Kowalski was born in 1977 in Poland and studied architecture, but after practicing the profession for a few years he decided to stop and follow his true passions: photography and flying. Kowalski managed to combine these two elements by developing a personal style and focusing on environmental issues.
With a paraglider or aboard a gyroplane, he flies over Poland, his country of origin, to capture landscapes that become unique thanks to the aerial perspective. Flying over the area around Gdynia, the city where he currently lives, Kowalski has created abstract images, which capture the symmetries and asymmetries of the landscape. His aerial pictures reveal how industry has changed nature in a way that would be less evident from another perspective.
His first photography book, Side Effects was published in 2014 and won the prestigious Best Photography Book Award in the Picture of the Year contest. In 2017 he released his second book, Over, rigorously monochromatic even if photographed in colour. Photographs from both projects are displayed all over the world.
Kacper Kowalski è nato nel 1977 e ha studiato architettura, ma dopo avere praticato la professione per qualche anno ha deciso di smettere e seguire le sue vere passioni: la fotografia e il volo. Kowalski è riuscito a coniugare questi due elementi sviluppando un stile personale e concentrandosi sulle tematiche ambientali.
Con il parapendio o a bordo di un autogiro sorvola la Polonia, il suo paese d’origine, per catturare paesaggi che diventano unici grazie alla prospettiva aerea. Sorvolando l’area intorno a Gdynia, la città dove vive, Kowalski ha realizzato delle immagini astratte, che colgono le simmetrie e le asimmetrie del paesaggio. Le sue foto aree rivelano come l’industria ha cambiato la natura in una maniera che sarebbe meno evidente da un’altra prospettiva.
Il suo primo libro fotografico, Side effects, è stato pubblicato nel 2014 e ha ricevuto diversi riconoscimenti, tra cui un World Press Photo nel 2015. Nel 2017 ha pubblicato il suo secondo libro, Over, con fotografie rigorosamente monocromatiche anche se originariamente scattate a colori. Le fotografie dei suoi progetti sono esposte in tutto il mondo.
